TDO Mini Forms v0.71 and Wordpress 2.3
I released TDO Mini Forms with minimal testing on Wordpress 2.3. Seemed to be okay. However, I just upgraded the demo site to Wordpress 2.3 and I noticed some “issues”. I will be attempting to push out a release soon to resolve them:
- The widget panel is slightly messed up. Obviously lots of the Theme widget stuff for Wordpress has been updated. The code in the plugin still works, but the admin menu looks horrible. Mostly because the stylesheet for the normal Theme widgets was moved from wp-admin to wp-admin/css.
- The “default category” option lists no categories. I’m guessing the category structure in the database has changed.
- The “remove options” button the uninstall page seriously messed up my install. Do not use it!
However, everything else seems to be working!
The lack of feedback so far for version 0.7 and 0.71 is a bit frightening. Is there anyone actually using it? Wordpress.org is reporting at least 186 downloads so far! so someone is using it.
Update #1: The reason the widget panel for TDOMF looks off, is that they’ve moved to jQuery. I don’t know how this impacts TDOMF. BTW, you can grab the latest development version. This should fix the stylesheet for the widgets for 2.3.

hello
i recently upgraded to WP 2.3 and i installed TDOMF 0.70 AFTER the upgrade so cant give you reliable feedback cause i didnt know how it was working but i can tell you what i have noticed:
widjet area and everything seems ok but i cannot setup a default category @ options
one other thing is that when i publish an article it gets a funny date like 1969 or something and it get published at the default category of my blog, no big deal since i moderate it before i publish it.
greetings from athens/greece
Giorgos
PS r u interesting for a greek translation?

I get that funny date thing too. I’m looking into it right now. I’m not sure what’s changed in the backend to muck up the publish date.
Any translations would be great!

I’ve fixed everything. If you grab the latest dev branch you’ll get them all. This evening I’ll do a proper release.

Hello!
This plugin is 85% of what I’m looking for for our community news website. I don’t want to let outsiders use our regular publishing forms but I need to give them an easy way to give us their content.
The only thing I see that’s missing is a way for them to attach one or more photos to the submitted text.
Any possibility of adding that to this excellent plugin?
Many thanks; be well,
-Dave

PS:
a) is there a .pot somewhere to start a translation or should i build one?
b) should i use your forum for feedback or anything else?

I had a couple of issues which the latest offering fixed fine. The date is now registering correctly and the widgets are working.
Cheers.

Hi Dave, v0.8… I swear. That’s the plan anyway. It’s a bit of a big feature, adding file upload.
Hi dueced, thats good to hear. I’ve made it “official” now so the latest v0.72 should be good to go for WP 2.3. Sadly it won’t work for WP 2.2 now.
I’m afraid I’ve never build a .pot file. I don’t know how to do it actually. I followed the guidelines on the codex to support translations, that is all. If there is something missing, drop me a line.
Yes, the forums are the preferred medium, but what ever way that gets the message to me is fine!

It’s all good, friend. It’s a terrific plugin and I can wait (though I can’t promise to be patient
.
Any idea when 0.8 might happen?
Be well,

Hi merman, good to hear it! Mental note to self, must test properly before release…
Hi Dave, at this point, I don’t know when it’ll be done. I’m currently thinking about implementation and it should be good to do. I’ll post updates on my blog about it as I go.

Hi there – Thanks so much for this excellent plugin. I’m just downloaded v.71 because I’m not yet on WP2.3 (due to plugin compatability issues). The set-default category function doesn’t seem to be working. I was also wondering please whether it’s possible to assign multiple categories to a post using the TDO form?
Many thanks again
Richard

Hi
I had an issue with the form whereby as soon as one person posted, the ability to post dissapeared and just left the comment ability. I have just downloaded the latest release and the form seems to be behaving at present but I am waiting for a fresh post to check it.
Is it me? (It could be!)
Cheers

Hi Richard, the set-default category is definitely working on v0.72. It should have been working on v0.71. What version of Wordpress are you using? And yes, it is possible. You can easily extend/modify the suggestion here to use more than one category.
Hi merman, I don’t know. v0.71 and v0.72 are major reworks from previous versions and v0.72 fixes many issues with v0.71, so I may have inadvertently fixed your issue. Keep me informed!

Hi Mark – I’m testing v 0.71 on a WordPress 2.2.1 install. Still can’t get the default category to work. In any event, I’m more interested in the kind of widget you’ve mentioned and linked to, one which enables a user to add multiple categories to a post. I used the code you suggested and created a widget, but it froze my WP install, so I had to delete it. Would you be keen on creating a widget for me please, that will work on v 0.71, for a reasonable fee? Perhaps you could email me please and let me know whether you’re interested and, if so, how much it would cost. I could pay you via PayPal. You’d be free to make it available to the WP community, i.e., I wouldn’t be wanting to claim any IP over it. Many thanks. Richard.

Hi Richard, what are you after exactly? Some way to allow users to select other categories for their post or that you can have more than one default category?

Hi Mark – I’m after a way for users to be able to select their own categories for a post. There would only be a default category if no categories were selected. On the posting page, there would be something like a list of categories (either a click-box list a bit like in the standard WP posting interface, or a list of clickable categories a bit like the del.icio.us tagging interface). Do you think this is doable?
Many thanks

Hi Richard, it certainly is doable. I had planned, after I got the Upload feature in to build two widgets to allow submitters select categories and add tags. I haven’t started on them yet because the upload feature is rather large.

That’s great news, thanks Mark. I really look forward to seeing those widgets. Still happy to get you to code one up in advance if you’re interested; otherwise, also happy to wait.
Cheers
Richard
