Hi Richard, it certainly is doable. I had planned, after I got the Upload feature in to build two widgets to allow submitters select categories and add tags. I haven’t started on them yet because the upload feature is rather large.

Hi Mark – I’m after a way for users to be able to select their own categories for a post. There would only be a default category if no categories were selected. On the posting page, there would be something like a list of categories (either a click-box list a bit like in the standard WP posting interface, or a list of clickable categories a bit like the del.icio.us tagging interface). Do you think this is doable?

Hi Mark – I’m testing v 0.71 on a WordPress 2.2.1 install. Still can’t get the default category to work. In any event, I’m more interested in the kind of widget you’ve mentioned and linked to, one which enables a user to add multiple categories to a post. I used the code you suggested and created a widget, but it froze my WP install, so I had to delete it. Would you be keen on creating a widget for me please, that will work on v 0.71, for a reasonable fee? Perhaps you could email me please and let me know whether you’re interested and, if so, how much it would cost. I could pay you via PayPal. You’d be free to make it available to the WP community, i.e., I wouldn’t be wanting to claim any IP over it. Many thanks. Richard.

Hi Richard, the set-default category is definitely working on v0.72. It should have been working on v0.71. What version of WordPress are you using? And yes, it is possible. You can easily extend/modify the suggestion here to use more than one category.

Hi merman, I don’t know. v0.71 and v0.72 are major reworks from previous versions and v0.72 fixes many issues with v0.71, so I may have inadvertently fixed your issue. Keep me informed!

I had an issue with the form whereby as soon as one person posted, the ability to post dissapeared and just left the comment ability. I have just downloaded the latest release and the form seems to be behaving at present but I am waiting for a fresh post to check it.

Is it me? (It could be!)

Hi there – Thanks so much for this excellent plugin. I’m just downloaded v.71 because I’m not yet on WP2.3 (due to plugin compatability issues). The set-default category function doesn’t seem to be working. I was also wondering please whether it’s possible to assign multiple categories to a post using the TDO form?
