<del datetime="2011-11-10T15:55:57+00:00">Download now from WordPress.org!</del>
Temporary Mirror

Requires at least WordPress v2.8.6 and tested up to WordPress v3.0.5.

This plugin allows you to add highly customisable forms that work with your Wordpress Theme to your website that allows non-registered users and/or subscribers (also configurable) to submit and edit posts and pages. New posts are kept in "draft" until an admin can publish them (also configurable). Likewise edits can be kept be automatically kept as revisions until an admin approves them. It can optionally use Akismet to check if submissions and contributions are spam. TDO Mini Forms can be used to create "outside-the-box" uses for Wordpress, from Contact Managers, Ad Managers, Collaborate Image Sites, Submit Links, etc.

0.13.9 is another compatibility fix for Wordpress 3.0. If you are running a Wordpress version prior to 3.0, you do not need to upgrade.

TDO Mini Forms has been used to turn Wordpress into a Forum, Contact Manager!

The plugin provides an extensive moderation view so administrators and editors can see posts and edits awaiting approval and publish or delete them. Administrators can also ban specific users and IPs from using the form. Administrators can also "Trust" specific users. This means that when they use the form, their posts are automatically published. This does not give them any other rights or permissions using the Wordpress software, it only affects usage of the form. This applies to user and IP bans as well. There is even an option to automatically trust users after so many approved submissions and edits.

Administrators can configure the forms using drag and drop "widgets". They are based on the same model as Wordpress' built-in Theme widgets and it is possible to write your own.

Registered users have access to a "Your Submissions" page which lists their current submissions and edits awaiting approval and links to their approved submissions.

This theme turns your WordPress blog into a Forum!

Download it now!

This graphically simple theme turns your WordPress Blog into a Forum. Categories are treated as individual Forums and a Post (with it’s comments) is treated as a Topic (aka thread). It has a number of powerful features built in such as listing posts on the front page, not by latest date, but by last commented on date. See the full list of features after the cut (or just below).

Version 3 is tested for compatibility with WordPress 2.5 and the display of individual topics is tweaked to be more forum like

Check out the demo or the forums to see it in action!

Features

Simple layout easy to modify and customize

Lists posts by date of last comment (instead of published date) (included as a page template)

Unread topics are highlighted and can be used to filter posts list (included as a page template)

A hierarchical Forum list (included as a page template)

AJAX Comment Preview (can be turned off)

Comment QuickTags (can be turned off)

Gravatars for posters and commenter’s (can be turned off)

Forum-looking Layout

Pages and Categories can be used as Tabs (configurable)

RSS 2.0 Feed of forum posts (can optionally be included in the theme or replace the main post RSS feed link)

Posts can be made “sticky”

Can set different URLs to create posts for different categories

Hide categories from the forum list

Theme Options page within WordPress Admin UI

Custom Posting Template

And all for free!

Installation

Download the tdo-forum.2.zip file and unzip the contents to `/path_to_wordpress/wp-content/themes/tdo-forum`. Now login as admin and go to Presentation and select the TDO Forum theme. Once enabled you’ll see a “Theme Options” menu added under presentation. From here you can set the options for the theme (like disabling quicktags and comment previews, gravatars, RSS feeds etc.)

Configuration

By default, the front page of theme shows three tabs: latest, unread and forums. Theses are provided by default for demonstration. You can turn off these tabs from the Theme Options menu avaliable to admins.

The Theme Options menu allows you to set what categories to not use as Forums in the theme, chose what Pages and/or Forums to use as Tabs and to set a URL for users to post. By default this links to the write menu but this is not avaliable to all users (such as subscribers).

To give you more control of the theme, there are four page templates you can use. To use a page template, create a new page and then select the page template from the sidebar. The four page templates are Forum Index (displays the categories as a hierarchy forum list), Latest Topics (lists posts by their last commented on date), Unread Topics (lists posts unread by the current user) and Submit Topic (allows users to start a new topic). You can then use the Theme Options menu to set them as tabs, in the order you want with any other pages.

I’ve also built-in some support for the paged-comments plugin which displays many comments on separate pages. When you enable this plugin, the original post will only appear on the first page, so that the subsequent pages just show comments. You do not need to have this plugin.

Using the “Submit Topic” Page Template

The Submit Topic Template allows users (including non-registered) users to start a new topic. It picks up settings from the Theme Options and Comment settings. So if you allow only logged in users to comment, only logged in users can start a new topic too.

In it’s default mode, it’ll display a list of forums that the user can select. They can select multiple or single forums. To change this, check page-submit-topic.php and the function tdof_category_select (defined in functions.php). This takes many arguments much like the built in wordpress drop-down category list.

You can also set what category to use in the URL of the page template. Just add
"?cat=[id of category]"
to the URL (if your using non-fancy permalinks it’ll be “&cat=[id of category]“). For example, if the URL for your submit topic page is:

http://yourblog.com/page/submit-topic/

Then you can tell it to only submit to category with Id 5 by using this URL:

http://yourblog.com/page/submit-topic/?cat=5

This template does not include preview, moderation, captchas, custom field support, multiple-form configuration, role-based access permissions, easy customisation, etc. For that, I’d recommend my plugin TDO Mini Forms which is explicitly designed to create forms to allow users to post to your WordPress blog.

TODO List

Optimization (SQL queries) and performance (caching) improvements. I’m not sure if this is yet required.

Page Template for stand-alone custom posting. My recommendation will always be to use TDO Mini Forms as it’s pretty powerful (moderation queues, widget created forms, multiple forms, tons of options) but it’s good to make the theme totally stand-alone, in need of no plugins.

Support “all pages” for tabs (currently you must specific what pages to use)

Convert read posts in cookies to userdata when a user logs in

Replace contents of WordPress Feed with Latest Feed. This requires a WP hook which is not avaliable and I don’t know if it will be ever.

Allow admins to specify categories to include instead of exclude

Update QuickTags so that it only supports the allowed tags for comments

Favourite/Save Posts for User (might implement this as a seperate plugin)

Comment number post thread in RSS feed

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I get the latest updates on TDO Forum?

Probably the best place is the TDO Forum Tag on my website (the RSS Feed will be avaliable from here).

Where is the best place to get support for this theme?

You can use the my forums, drop a comment on my blog or you can post on WordPress.org’s Support Form

I want the custom posting form to do X?

Forget it. The Custom Posting Page Template is provided as is. If you need special modifications, please check out my TDO Mini Forms plugin. I’m not going to integrate the features of this plugin into the theme. It doesn’t make sense when you can just install the TDO Mini Forms plugin too!

Known Bugs

I’ve hacked the_loop to get the theme to work properly. I’m sure this will introduce problems later.

Some fiddling with timestamps of posts is not perfect. Sticky Posts have only the date they were made sticky printed on the Latest Topics list, not the last time they were commented on.

Version History

v1: 28 February 2008

Initially version of theme with the basic set of features. Does not include a custom posting template and requires further optimization in the backend stuff.

v2: 10 March 2008

Added “User Profiles”

Added “Custom Posting Page Template”

Added “Mark all topics read” button to the “Unread Topics” page template

v3: 08 April 2008

WordPress 2.5 compatibility and also uses gravatars from WP2.5 if avaliable

Tweaked individual topic layout (user info displayed on left)

Download now from WordPress.org!

Requires at least WordPress v2.3 and tested up to WordPress v2.5.1.

This plugin is simply intended as an example of how to implement tag and category intersections. However it has got a bit more feature-heavy recently. Please feel free to re-use the code in your plugin. This plugin is based on information found here.

Version 0.5 enables true 'or' tag intersection when using a category. It wasn't working prior to this (and no-one noticed). Thanks to Joel Giddey for spotting it.

Wordpress 2.3 introduced native tagging support, which is rather nifty.

But did you know that you can display multiple tags in the one archive and even generate a feed for that?

"
http://your-blog-uri/?tag=tag1,tag2
" this would get all the posts tagged with tag1 or tag2.

"
http://your-blog-uri/?tag=tag1+tag2
" this would get all the posts tagged with tag1 and tag2

"
http://your-blog-uri/?tag=tag1,tag2&feed=rss
" this would get you an RSS feed for all the posts tagged with tag1 or tag2

Neat huh? But did you notice that on the generated tag page you see only one tag listed in the header? This function fixes that and displays all tags used to generate that tag archive. It does this by silently modifying the
single_tag_title
template tag. It'll even work on the RSS feed generated by that page!

What would be also be cool is to be able to intersect categories and tags so you could grab posts with tags from a specific category for example?

With this plugin you can. It's not perfect however. It only allows intersection between a single category and one or more tags. Technically Wordpress should be able to support multiple categories and tags intersections but it didn't work for me in Wordpress 2.3.x and 2.5.

So go to one of your category pages. If your using using fancy permalinks then at the end of the url add "
?tdo_tag=a_tag
". If your not using permalinks then you can just use "
&tdo_tag=a_tag
". You must use the tag slug, not the full tag name. You can use multiple tags as above using "," and "+".

Example not using fancy permalinks: "
http://your-blog-uri/?cat=35&tdo_tag=tag1,tag2
" this would get all posts in category with id 35 and tagged with either tag1 or tag2.

Example using fancy permalinks: "
http://your-blog-uri/category/mycategory/?tdo_tag=tag1+tag2
" this would get all posts in the category "mycategory" and tagged with both tag1 and tag2.

This plugin uses this intersection code to automatically modify the built-in tag cloud template tag
wp_tag_cloud
so that if it is used on a category archive, it shows only the tags within that category. You can then click on a tag in that tag cloud and it will get the posts for in that category that tagged with that tag. (You can disable this and just use the specific template as you need).

This extension does not transform your WordPress (WP) posts into DokuWiki (DW) entires. If your looking for that functionality, I’d recommend doing a google search for dwBliki plugin.

What this extension does is to get DokuWiki to use WordPress’ authentication, i.e. DokuWiki to use WordPress’ user database, using an authentication plugin for DokuWiki.

Download the DokuWiki Authentication Extension (v1.2)

Previous downloads:<strike>Download the DokuWiki Authentication Extension (v1.1)</strike> and <strike>Download the DokuWiki Authentication Extension</strike>

Before you begin, you’ll need to be able to run MySQL commands on your WP database and shouldn’t be afraid of modifying some code.

Much of this work was based on the DW splitbrain.org wiki documentation. I used the phpbb integration as a template. See:

http://wiki.splitbrain.org/wiki:auth:mysql
http://wiki.splitbrain.org/wiki:tips:integrate_with_phpbb

I’ve tested this with versions:

DokuWiki: 2006-03-09d
Wordpress: 2.0.4

I can’t speak for other versions.

Version History

1.2 (10/10/2006)

The extension turns back on “magic quotes” which causes additional slashes in DW articles after editing.

1.1 (03/10/2006)

Small fix for using WordPress tags while logged in.

Documentation/Instructions updates

1.0 (27/09/2006)

First Release

Notes on using this authentication plugin

I’d recommend that you get your users to use the WP’s Register, Login and Logout interface rather than DW’s. However, DW’s Login and Logout should work fine and they should log in and out of WP at the same time.

BUT you should use WP to add new users. If you use DW, they won’t be configured correctly to use WP as you need to modify two SQL tables and DW will only modify one.

By default all users are a member of the “defaultgroup”. WP does not have any concept of user groups. It does have a concept of roles which I have ignored because I wanted the flexibility of DW’s user groups. You can’t really remove users from this group unless you modify “wordpress.class.php”.

You can use DW’s “User Manager” to add and remove your WP users from DW’s user groups but avoid the “Configuration Settings” as this overwrites your local.php and seems to cause problems for the WP authenication.

This plugin also introduces a useful feature. Because it pulls in your WordPress files, you can then, anywhere else in DW, access WordPress functions. This means, for example, you can use template functions like “get_header();” or “get_sidebar();” if your skinning your DW.

First up: Installing WordPress and/or DokuWiki

For installing WP or DW, refer to the included installation documentation.

Install WP first and make sure everything is up and running before installing DW. Make sure that DW is installed in a directory at the same level as WP or as a subdirectory of WP. This is to make sure that the cookie domains are the same.

In my test environment I had wordpress installed @ ~/public_html/test/wp and DW installed @ ~/public_html/test/dw.

Now, configuring DokuWiki…

First, copy “wordpress.class.php” to <dokuwiki></dokuwiki>/inc/auth. Open it in your favorite text editor and make sure that WP_ROOT is correct:

if(!defined(‘WP_ROOT’)) define(‘WP_ROOT’, DOKU_INC.’../wp/’);

I have it configured by default to assume that dokuwiki is installed at the same level as WP and that WP is installed in a directory called “wp”.

acl.auth.php

You probably created a “conf/acl.auth.php” when you installed DW initially. If you didn’t, make a copy of conf/acl.auth.php.dist and name it “acl.auth.php”.

local.php

You probably created a “conf/local.php” when you installed DW initially. If you didn’t, make a copy of conf/local.php.dist and name it “local.php”. Open it in your favorite text editor and add (or modify) these settings:

// Disable the ability to register: users should register via the WordPress interface
$conf['openregister']= 0;
// Disable password autogen: not important if users can’t register
$conf['autopasswd'] = 1;
// Disable password resend: let wordpress do this
$conf['resendpasswd']= 0;
// Enable access control
$conf['useacl'] = 1;
// Use wordpress authentication
$conf['authtype'] = ‘wordpress’;
// Not sure what passcrypt needs to be set to, but this works
$conf['passcrypt'] = ‘smd5′;
// Recommend you set defaultgroup to “user” and “superuser” admin group.
// as we’ll be creating them during our integration.
$conf['defaultgroup']= ‘user’;
$conf['superuser'] = ‘@admin’;
// Updating profile requires password
$conf['profileconfirm'] = ’1′;

Finally, modifying your SQL Database

First, backup your database. You can do this quite easily via WP’s Database plugin.

You need to create two new tables to support DW. In the code below I’ve called these tables “wp_dw_groups” and “wp_dw_usergroups”. If you did not use “wp_” as your database prefix for WordPress, you will need to modify these commands before you use them and replace “wp_” with the prefix you used. “wordpress.class.php” uses the database prefix to reference these tables.

Connect to your database and run these two commands:

CREATE TABLE `wp_dw_groups` (
`gid` int(10) UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
`name` varchar(50) NOT NULL DEFAULT ”,
PRIMARY KEY (`gid`),
UNIQUE KEY `name` (`name`)
) TYPE = MYISAM;
CREATE TABLE `wp_dw_usergroup` (
`uid` int(10) UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT ’0′,
`gid` int(10) UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT ’0′,
PRIMARY KEY (`uid`,`gid`)
) TYPE = MYISAM;

These will create the two tables you need. However, you need to setup some groups too. So these two commands will create a user and an admin group.

INSERT INTO `wp_dw_groups` VALUES (1,”admin”);
INSERT INTO `wp_dw_groups` VALUES (2,”user”);

Now you need to give yourself admin rights. Normally the first user created in WP is the admin account. This normally has the ID of 1. So now we will add admin user to admin and user groups.

INSERT INTO `wp_dw_usergroup` VALUES (1,1);
INSERT INTO `wp_dw_usergroup` VALUES (1,2);

Finished

Now you should be able to login and logout using your WP’s users on DW!
It is designed to be ultra simple and clean. The main content body sits exactly in the center of the screen and does not resize. The front page shows a random “message” which can be configured.

Download the Theme!

I wanted to drive visitors to the more interesting bits on my site, so the top menu does not contain all the pages or categories, but choice ones. Using this theme on my own webpage, I put the other top-level categories and pages on the “Other Stuff” page. Was it effective on getting people to visit the stuff I want? I don’t know. What I do know is that it’s time for me to change.

This theme has been tested with WordPress 2.0.4. I cannot guarantee that this theme will be compatible with other versions.

Installing

You can download it from here. Once downloaded, extract the contents. You should have a directory called tdo2006 with several files in it. Copy this directory and files to your wp-content/themes directory. You can then activate the theme from your admin panel.

Customisation

You will have to customise the menu at the top. To do this, open header.php and edit the code to use the categories and pages you specifically want.

I’ve also included a number of additional category templates. If you want to use them to replace the default, just rename them to category.php. If you want to use them for a specific category, copy and rename to category-id.php where id is the id of the category. You can find the id in the manage categories page.

To add or change the random messages on the front page, just edit dark_messages.html

This theme is a clear three column view with a useful toolbar on top. It has support for easy customisation (per category, author and whole site).

This theme is originally a conversion of my site when moving from a MovableType setup to WordPress. Because of that I added a lot of extra functionality into the theme but don’t worry, it’ll work out of the box on a new system without any plugins. (If your interested in the code, most of it is in “tdo-functions.php”).

This theme is for WordPress 1.5 or better. It has been successfully tested in WordPress 2.0. Download it.

It uses CSS to have two conceptual menus. The one on the left is the traditional WP sidebar. The one on the right is customised to the section being displayed (i.e. for category archives, pages, date archives, author archives, etc.).

It is entirely built up on the idea of categories represent sections of your site. In my old MT setup I used to split my page into several “blogs” with their own categories. Thanks to the wonder of WP’s proper implementation of subcategories, I can do away with that and treat my entire website as one site. So the top level categories represent major sections, thats why they are listed in the sidebar. If you browse to one of the sections, the sub categories are shown on the right side. You can of course browse to sub categories of sub categories etc. Category descriptions are used.

I’ve also verified that the theme works in IE, Opera and Mozilla but I haven’t tried it on other OSes besides Windows.

For an example of this in action, check this site (one of mine) and the ‘looks’ of the different subcategories: ‘Game’ pages on MOC.

Installing

You can download it from here. Once downloaded, extract the contents. You should have a directory called tdo with several files in it. Copy this directory and files to your wp-content/themes directory. You can then activate the theme from your admin panel.

Upgrading

If you are using an older version of the theme, first remove the functions.php as this will cause WordPress 2.0 to crash. Then just overwrite the old files with the new files.

Personalising

You can personalise in many ways without modifying the template files
themselves.

You can specify a different icon (IE’s favorites icon), stylesheet, banner image and background image for the whole theme or just specific categories and authors.

Sub categories will take on the properties of their parent category and single posts will take on a stylesheet of the parent category or author. I implemented this because on one of the sites I use, a category can represent a logical grouping including subcategories and individual posts. The author thing I just added because I could.

The order of preference is this:
1. Category
2. Author (if applicable)
3. Sitewide
4. Defaults

To do all this is quite simple. Just drop in a file in the the tdo directory with the correct name. They all start with the prefix “my”:

my"type"[(-cat|-author)"id"]."ext"

For example to specify a new stylesheet for the site, it would be:

mystyle.css

For a category with id 2:

mystyle-cat2.css

And for an author with id 4:

mystyle-author2.css

For the banner and background images for category with id 4 you would have:

mybanner-cat4.jpg and mybg-cat4.jpg

And to change the icon for the entire site you can use:

myicon.ico

Because I’m such a nice person, I’ve include a selection of alternative banners and background images which you can just rename to use. They are called
tdo-banner-alt-"name".jpg
and
tdo-bg-alt-"name".jpg
.

If I do any updates to this theme, you won’t have to modify your files, just overwrite the update theme files.

Extra Bits

Hmm. Well you have a “Logged In as ‘username’” in the header with quick links to register, login and logout. Additionally, the category path is printed here too.

On the main page, you’ll see that automagically on the right side, an extract from the latest post from each major category is shown. Additionally, the last five comments are listed too.

If you go a author’s archive you’ll see some details are displayed about the author (including the profile). If you’re logged in, you’ll see their full details including email. By default in WP you can’t really display this information without additional code.

The “path” is displayed at the top. The path is the category path and post. For posts that belong to more than one category, the first category found is used.

Hope you like it and if you do, you can drop me a line on my website. I’m not really vain, but I would appreciate it if you left the “Theme design by Mark Cunningham” in the footer (though you could rename it to “Original Theme desiged by Mark Cunningham”, that’d be okay).

History

10 February 2006: Version 1.3

* Fixed custom category stylesheet, banner and bg. It was broken by WP 2.0 but I hadn’t noticed. It’s possible that some of the other features are broken.

4 January 2006: Version 1.2

* Updated to WordPress 2.0
* Added screenshot

17 May 2005: Version 1.1

Some general fixes and updates.

* Comments and trackbacks were not displayed correctly. This is fixed.
* The banner image scrolled weirdly. This is now fixed.
* If a post had no title, the browse arrows and the link in the ‘latest’ column would not work. This is now fixed.
* The entry ‘path’ links work correctly for pages now.
* Updated to be compatible with WordPress 1.5.1

2 March 2005: Version 1.0

For more information check out the README.

Just download the rbFriendsBeta4.zip (611k) and use Java to run it.

To use this application you’ll need to have the latest version of the Java runtime installed (at least version 1.4). You can download it and install it here for your os.

Once you’ve downloaded it, you should extract it to some location locally. Then you should be able to run it from a console by typing:

java -jar rbFriends.jar

Download the source from here.

With version Beta4, transparent alert dialogs have been added. This is an experimental feature.

Update (21st March ’05): I am no longer supporting or working on this plugin as I’ve moved away from MovableType. This plugin will remain available for download and people are free to modify it and rerelease it as needed.

This is a plugin called MT-Close2 for Movabletype (2.65).

MT-Close2 allows you to close comments and trackbacks on multiple entires and blogs on the same installation of MT in one go. This helps fight off comment spam by closing of old entries.

Additionally it allows you to “open” comments and trackbacks, select entries by age and/or number of comments, select by categories and preview list of entries before changing. It also works on non-mySQL installs of MT (unlike MT-Close).

Originally based on David Rayners short script, MT-Close which was originally based on a script from Jeremy D. Zawodny.

To use MT-Close2, download mt-close2.zip (6k) and then unzip mt-close2.zip and place mt-close2.cgi in your base MT directory (the directory where you have mt.cgi). Set the permissions of the file so that it can be executed (normally ‘chmod 755′). Then, to use it, just bring up http://your.mt.url/mt-directory/mt-close2.cgi in your browser of choice.

Best of luck!

Notes: A few people have asked me how do you show that comments are closed when someone opens an entry. To do this you’ve got add some code to your templates (Individual Entry Template is probaly the best). This is what I add:

<MTEntryIfCommentsOpen><MTElse>
Due to the proliferation of comment spam, I've had to close comments on this entry. If you would like to leave comment, please use one of my recent entries. Thank you and sorry for any inconvience caused.
</MTElse></MTEntryIfCommentsOpen>

This will print out the message “Due to the proliferation of comment spam, I’ve had to close comments on this entry. If you would like to leave comment, please use one of my recent entires. Thank you and sorry for any inconvience caused” to the entry of comments are not open on that entry.
