Temporary Mirror
Requires at least WordPress v2.8.6 and tested up to WordPress v3.0.5.
This plugin allows you to add highly customisable forms that work with your Wordpress Theme to your website that allows non-registered users and/or subscribers (also configurable) to submit and edit posts and pages. New posts are kept in "draft" until an admin can publish them (also configurable). Likewise edits can be kept be automatically kept as revisions until an admin approves them. It can optionally use Akismet to check if submissions and contributions are spam. TDO Mini Forms can be used to create "outside-the-box" uses for Wordpress, from Contact Managers, Ad Managers, Collaborate Image Sites, Submit Links, etc.
0.13.9 is another compatibility fix for Wordpress 3.0. If you are running a Wordpress version prior to 3.0, you do not need to upgrade.
TDO Mini Forms has been used to turn Wordpress into a Forum, Contact Manager!
The plugin provides an extensive moderation view so administrators and editors can see posts and edits awaiting approval and publish or delete them. Administrators can also ban specific users and IPs from using the form. Administrators can also "Trust" specific users. This means that when they use the form, their posts are automatically published. This does not give them any other rights or permissions using the Wordpress software, it only affects usage of the form. This applies to user and IP bans as well. There is even an option to automatically trust users after so many approved submissions and edits.
Administrators can configure the forms using drag and drop "widgets". They are based on the same model as Wordpress' built-in Theme widgets and it is possible to write your own.
Registered users have access to a "Your Submissions" page which lists their current submissions and edits awaiting approval and links to their approved submissions.

Great plugin. Just found one snag in that when the form is filled in by a “guest” it automatically publishes the post rather than moderates. Any ideas why? Thanks.
Hi Breger, what do you mean by “guest”?
It’ll only automatically publish posts if
a) The submitter is logged in with a user account that can publish anyway such as an Author or Admin.
b) The submitter is logged in with a user account that has been flagged as “trusted” in the plugins manage page.
I just tried it on my test blog and if your not logged in, it won’t publish it.
Damnit, I’ve noticed two errors though, the message when you post says “Your download is now in our…” instead of “Your post is now…” and there is a missing period in the message.
Hi Mark. Thanks for the prompt reply. I nkow it should ony publish from these types of users but I find that (on my site) if you do not log in and go to the page http://www.airdrie.net/weblog2/guest-posts-form/
(which is where my form is) and fill in the form, it will automatically post your entry. Can you try this and let me know what you find? Thanks.
When I go to the page I see this message “You do not currently have permissions to use this form. If this is an error please contact admins.”
What User Level did you set “Who can access the form”? You have to set it to -1 to allow anyone to use the form.
Sorry Mark. I think my details were still in the cache . When I tried it on another PC it works. I have re-set the user level to 1 to allow anyone to use the form. Many thanks.
Hi,
Your plugin is so close to what I’d really like/need for a site I am doing. I was wondering though if the allowing users/subscribers/whatever to edit their post could be added/integrated?
I would be willing to paypal you a few bucks ($20?) if you can help me get this all working.
I need it so that user submits post, I pick its category and mark it as live. Person that published post (either now as a real WordPress user, or by giving the correct password or something) can edit the post without going into the WordPress admin.
Let me know if you can help.
Thanks,
David
Hi David,
Allowing users/submitters to edit their posts was one of those big features I wasn’t planning to do for a while. I can turn around small bug fixes very quickly but I need some time before I start implementing any of the big features. Too much other stuff on my plate. I’d love to take your money, but my web host won’t allow it either. If you can wait a few weeks, I will get around to it.
In the meantime, how would you imagine it being implemented? A “code” of some description sent to the submitter for posts submitted by non-users/guests or some mechanism to allow users “claim” posts and then edit them? In my prototype code, I had some template functions that you had to add to the single template to allow editing. This is probaly still the best method I think.
Mark
AMAZING PLUGIN MAN! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
hi,
I’ve been trying to make it such that the posts submitted by anonymous users via the form are not published but I’m not having any luck. I want anyone to submit but I want to moderate before publishing.
You have a good plugin but the instructions are not very clear.
any help?
ohhh the php tag works… but when i try to add the quicktag it doesnt work! somebody help please!!
i tried to put this into my page:
and NOTHING happened
anyone know a solution to that problem?
thanks!!!!!!
I’ve been trying to make it such that the posts submitted by anonymous users via the form are not published but I’m not having any luck. I want anyone to submit but I want to moderate before publishing.
any help mark?
Thanks Ben.
Robert, how do you know that anonymous users are automatically being published? If your logged in and you use the form, your posts *will* be automatically published. If you go to the form, check for a message like this, just under the main text box or email field:
(You are logged in as admin)
If you see a message like this, you are using the form logged in. Make sure you log out first.
Mark
Mark, I know anonymous users are able to post because I am testing the script with 4 different browsers. I am only logged in with firefox. The other 3 browsers, I am not logged in to my blog.
I have tried various settings but it’s still not working for me. I am not sure what I’m doing wrong (or not doing).
I really like your script to and I would really appreciate any help you may offer.
Like I said…I want anybody to be able to submit a posting but I want to moderate it before being published on the site. Is that possible with your script? if so, how do I configure it?
thanks Mark.
mark please help me with the quicktag, i trey to add it to a page or a post and it doesn’t work!
what have i done wrong?
email me if you can… THANKS MARK!!!!!!!!!!
Hi robert, the plugin is meant to do exactly that!
did you change the “default author” setting? What is it set to and what are the rights of that user?
I think there may be a bug where, if the default author has rights to post, and you recieve a post from anonymous, it gets assigned to that user who has rights to post. Then the plugin assumes that the post can be published.
I’ll check if this is the case on my test site.
Ben, eh, I don’t know. It should be right. Is the plugin activated? What version of WordPress are you using? Have you tried the template function, tdomf_show_form()?
Damn. There is a bug, if you post anonymousily but the user set as “default author” has rights to publish, then the post will be automatically published. Will update.
New release of the plugin avaliable (v0.2), including a fix for the “default author” bug.
Robert, this should fix your issue.
Hi Mark,
Saw that you had “hacked” a way to allow LJXP plugin to post from problematic hosts.
I’m hosting on GoDaddy – and it seems that I cannot get the plugin to work consistently. You left a link to a post, that was nowhere to be found.
Can you assist?
Thanks,
Mike
Hi Mike, your talking about this post: http://thedeadone.net/software/livejournal-and-wordpress/
I don’t know how applicable this is for GoDaddy. Anyway, you can direct comments there or on the lj version: http://tdo-ie.livejournal.com/638.html
A very welcome addition to the plugins of wordpress man! Thanks! Any thoughts or ideas on adding image/file uploadability? *(is that a real word)!?
MARK,
SORRY FOR THE CAPS BUT YOU’VE SCORED A TEN WITH ME NOW!!!
The new version is what I was asking for yesterday!
IT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED AND WORKS LIKE A CHARM!!!
Now the only other thing I wish for is a “file attachment field” so that users can submit images with their posts – and a way to limit the image size of course!
I am perfectly willing to donate via paypal for this extra option! Let me know if this something you are willing to do now…
thanks Mark!
MARK,
I left you a comment that was flagged by your blog’s spam catcher, but basically what I wanted to say was that the new version works like a charm now (thanl you very much) and I am prepared to contribute via paypal for an extra field in the form where users can submit images (and a way to control the image sizes) with their posts.
This is exactly what I’ve needed for a very long time. Adding the ability to upload an image, video, or file would be a HUGE welcome addition.
Hi Howard and Chris,
File upload (and download) is something I implemented on my prototype. What I did was, when someone used the form, they could upload to a “unclaimed” folder. When they then sent in the post, the file would move from unclaimed to claimed and the post would be linked with the file. If you delete the post, it would delete the file. If the post was not published, you couldn’t download the file. I guess, to have this feature you would need to have the option to have more than one upload, be able to configure what can be uploaded and size.
I know in WordPress you can have “attachments” with posts using the normal UI but I don’t understand enough about that part of the WordPress code.
You’ll have to wait a while for this feature I’m afraid though. It’s a biggie and need to take over the world first before I can get around to it.
Mark
wow great, you just solved a problem i was thinking about ;o) thanks!
the only feature i’d wish it had, was the ability to send an email to one or more configurable addresses/editors (not only the admin), when a new draft is posted.
Hi Marco,
I had original planned to put something like that in the first release, but never got around to it. For the moment, you can send it to all at a specific user level so if you wanted, you could use something like WordPress RoleManager to create a role with a specific user level and assign any user that should recieve notifications to that role. I haven’t tried this myself.
Mark
I can’t use the tag nor the template function.. I tried putting the form on a page but it just shows a blank page, no matter which user I’m logged in as… the plugin is activated, I’m using WordPress 2.0.4
the page address is http://www.rosariocyc.com.ar/coberturas/publica-tu-propia-cobertura/
Also, I get some errors in the TDOMF Options in the admin panel:
On “IP ADDRESS” I get:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/thraxx/public_html/wp-content/plugins/TDOMiniForms/ManageMenu.php on line 492
On “USERS” I get:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/thraxx/public_html/wp-content/plugins/TDOMiniForms/ManageMenu.php on line 329
On “POSTS” I get:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/thraxx/public_html/wp-content/plugins/TDOMiniForms/ManageMenu.php on line 192
Hope you can help..
i tried adding the form through the ‘page’ way. but I ended up seeing this: http://brokenshardz.us.to/gpost/
any idea why?
Great plugin! Thanks a lot for it. I’m using it as a way to post requests on our website. Hope it will encourage reader activity and loyalty.
Thxn again!
Thanks for this plugin! I’ve been looking for this kind of plugin so I can let users submit lyrics and articles to my music site. Thanks really!
Several comments recently got stuck in the moderator queue, just approved them so sorry if you thought I was just ignore you all!
shardz, when I follow the link, I see the form as I expect.
Thraxx , I followed the link and obviousily didn’t see the form. However I did check the source and I can see the javascript has been added correctly by the plugin. May I ask what other plugins you may have installed? As for the “foreach” errors… I’ll have a look here and get back to you. One thing I didn’t do was test the plugin on a fresh copy of wordpress.
Thanks for TDO Mini Forms! Is there a way to let guest DIRECTLY publish posts? – Without draft status and admin verification it? Thanks!
Hi Lu,
I designed the plugin so that guests can’t publish posts directly. I’d strongly recommend against this as it could be used to do bad things(tm).
However, the previous version of the plugin 0.1 does allow it but I consider it a bug. You can grab the previous version of the plugin from http://thedeadone.net/wp-content/sw/Wordpress/tdomf_v0.1.zip
To get it to publish automatically guest posts, set the “default author” with rights to publish (i.e. make the user “author”). Then all guest posts will be automatically published. However this does not allow normal non-author users to automatically publish.
You can of course modify the code and I can provide details for this if you really want.
Mark
Hi,
great plugin, I have been waiting for such a thing for a long time.
I like the possible features, mainly the upload some files and editing the post later with the user who posted the post.
If you implement these, I will be very happy:)
Not work with WP 2.1.
I want to be able to make custom post form. I know how to add input fields.. but thats all! HELP! Put a instruction on adding custom fields, that will display in the posts! ie. Location or $location
Hi CW,
AFAIK 2.1 has not yet been officially released yet. When it is I will update the plugin to work on it.
Hi Steve,
Adding custom input fields to the form requires a lot of hacking. Doable but you have to know what your doing. It is one of the future features I plan for the plugin and it is something I, being the author, would like to add. So all I can say is, be patient.
Hi! Great plugin!
it works in WORDPRESS MU?
Thanks!
Hi Joan, I haven’t a clue if the plugin would work in WordPress MU.
Hello Mark, great plugin. Including the custom fields in form.php is the best thing to do ! This resolves a lot of various customization problems ! Great idea, can’t wait to have the new version
)))
Hello Mark
really good plugin
Is it possible to only use it on a specific Page with the template tag.
Because when I look at the source code of my index.php I see a lot of script (in the head) that isn’t needed there.
Thank you very much
Great plugin, I really appreciate it. But is there any way to adjust it to accept longer posts? Right now it doesn’t seem to take anything over about 240 words.
Terry
Any suggestion how to fix this?
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare tdomf_get_ips() (previously declared in D:\hshome\spanishc\oregonlatino.com\wp-content\plugins\TDOMiniForms\ManageMenu.php:8) in D:\hshome\spanishc\oregonlatino.com\wp-content\plugins\TDOMiniForms\ManageMenu.php on line 7
Hi ash, cound’nt it be because your website is local, it could mess with the ip adresses i guess. Bests, charles
Good work. I’ll keep an eye for updates.
Thanks for your work.
I am also really interested in adding form fields. I have figured out how to hack the look of the form and the look of the results page…just not add fields. I know you have been requested this. How about highlighting in the code for me to hack.. or a tutorial on it, to hold us over until the new version comes out. I am a newbie, so the more help the better.
Hi all,
Sorry, I’m just back from Christmass/New Years holidays so I’m only catching all your comments now.
Kees, I haven’t figured out how to do that exactly. Right now, using just the template tag, there is no way to know if the ajax script stuff needs to be in the header for that page or not. So it ends up being in the header of all files. If anyone knows how this should/can be done, please let me know?
Terry Heath, only 240 words? You don’t happen to know how many characters that is? I’ll look into it when I get the chance. There is no hard-coded limit, AFAIK.
Ash, I haven’t a clue. I assume your doing this on a windows box. I’ve only ever tested the plugin on unix boxes. I don’t think it has to do with IPs, something about the order of function declarations…
Steve, custom fields (if you know enough basic php and html) are easy to hack but will be hard to implement properly as part of the plugin. I’ll get back to you on some basic details on how to do it. Also, when I get around to the next version of the plugin, I will provide more customisation options.
BTW Happy new year to everyone.
Mark
Hi Mark
thanks a lot for this plugin.
I’m using wordpress as web directory and article-directory (write articles for link). I hope I’m using the correct words for this
I would like to translate it into German. Would you like to get the *german package* from your plugin? If, please send me an email.
Fantastic, easy, useful and it spares my time.
I wish you well
Monika
Hi Monika, for some reason your comments were flagged as spam so thats why you got the 404. Anyway, I approved the first comment.
Hi,
Sorry if this post is a repeat, I left this comment in another location as per the contact page instructions. I was just wondering when (if at all) the ability to attach a file to a posting will be available? Just wondering what your plans are.
Thanks for a great plugin,
Mark
markww at gmail dot com
I had the same issue as Ash ain a comment postedf on Dec 31st. The directory token for windows vs *nix screws things up.
In ManageMenu.php the pertinent code is:
function tdomf_show_manage_menu() {
global $wpdb;
$options_uri = “options-general.php?page=TDOMiniForms@slash@OptionsMenu.php”;
$our_uri = “edit.php?page=TDOMiniForms@slash@ManageMenu.php”;
$users_uri = “profile.php?page=TDOMiniForms@slash@ManageMenu.php”;
and in TODOMiniForms.php, the pertinent code is in function tdomf_show_menu_header.
@slash@ is just a token I use.It will be “/” in the orignial code. Replace @slash@ with \ for a windows box, and / for a *nix box.
Ah excellent Wyatt, thank you. I don’t have access to a windows setup so I wouldn’t have been able to catch that.
Mark, my plans are pretty nebulous for the moment. I don’t have internet access at home right now and I can’t afford to spend time in work on my website or this (or any) plugin. So until I can get access at home, I can’t do much. However my plan was to continue development of the plugin. A lot of people seemed to be interested in it. There has been a lot of shouting for file (or image) uploads so that will have to be one of the next set of features to do. When the storm settles here in work, I’ll post a proper update/plan for the plugin.
great plugin idea – i haven’t tried it out yet though, coz i really need the custom lines.
I love your plugin,
BUt I am trying to use it with wpmu not wp and everything works except if Iclick on the “users” tab in your plugin, then I get this error:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare tdomf_get_ips() in /var/www/web5/web/wp-content/plugins/TDOMiniForms/ManageMenu.php on line 8
any ideas how to get rid of that error?
A great plugin! One problem though for those using languages with accented characters. I translated all the messages and such and put header(“Content-type: text/html; charset=utf-8″); into the header of the form.php
Everything is okay except when the form is sent.
The post itself (both title and text) is not sent as utf-8 and all accented and special characters are messed up.
Where and what would I put in the form-code to fix this: To send the inner html as utf-8 charset?
Best regards
Palli Svans
On second thought why not let the plugin send the html in the default charset WP uses. In my case utf-8.
Plugin would check what encoding WP is using and sends the contents of the html form in the sam encoding.
Just a thought!
Nice plugin, but I can’t get it to work. I create a new page and put “” in the textbox. When I go to that page, NOTHING is there. Any ideas?
thanks
Hey, Great Plugin. I’m wondering though if there’s a way to only have the javascript in the header on the page of the form (I’m using a template), rather than on the entire site? Thanks, Ahni
Hi Ahni, it is something I plan to look at in the next version.
Great News Mark. I was going to try and remove it on my own, cuz I tested it and it works fine for my needs – but I will eagerly await the next version. thanks again.
hi Mark,
This is nice, although I had a couple problems.
First, it looks for “pluggable-functions.php”, but I have only “pluggable”. That seems to work.
Weirdly, when posting something from IE7 I get an alert that the page wants to run an MSXML script. that’s scary for the average user.
It’d also be nice to be able to turn on and off the name/email requirements. I may not need those at all, really.
Ultimately, I would really love to have tags included (I’m running Ultimate Tag Warrior). But that is probably a whole new level of complexity.
Nice start! Thanks for working on this.
greg
Hi Greg,
Are you using the latest wordpress 2.1 or the previous versiion of wordpress 2.0.x. I haven’t yet updated/tested the plugin on wp 2.1… first thing on my list. I suspect that’s the “pluggable” option.
The MSXML is the AJAX stuff I guess. I haven’t tested myself under IE. Thats something else to work on.
As for tags. YEp, I want tags too!
In my prototype it was integrated with Ultimate Tag Warrior, so potentially it’s possible.
I’m getting more time now and I have a few website housekeeping stuff to do… but I’ll soon be able to start work on the next version of TDOMF!
Mark
Hey Mark:
I could really use this plugin with the ability to add custom fields. Could modify it for me if I pay you? If so, can you say how much you’d charge me?
Thanks – Michael
I’m with Michael. I may be interested in splitting the cost with Michael, though it will have to work for WP2.1.
I will need the ability to add custom fields and
image upload to the front-end form.
please let me know if you are interested and if michael is interested, please send him my email address.
thanks,
eric
Is there anyway to a another field to the form? I would like to have a field for readers to put a URL in. Unfortunately I am stupid when it comes to PHP, so I can’t do it myself. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Wow…this is just fabulous…this works like a charm….however we need to make sure that this is secure as well….something like using a PHPImage Verification…..thanks a lot….works great….
Mark, great work on this plugin!
I’m with just about everyone else on the extra options. Most notably, image upload and custom fields. I’d be willing to put some money down with everyone else to help speed this up.
Also is there a way to get your beta version and keeing it updated as you go on this site? If so please send an email my way. I’d be willing to work on some experimental stuff.
Thanks.
Ryan
Micheal, Eric, Ryan, etc.
I’d love to take your money but as I’ve stated earlier in comments, I can’t just stick a paypal button on the page. Also it’d be a bit unfair because I haven’t actually done any coding/real work on TDOMF version 0.3 yet. This is a hobby for me and my time is stretched (my wife is expecting number two btw).
I have been doing some research into various features however. My current “roadmap” is to first get it compatible with WordPress 2.1. Then fix and tidy up the plugin such as getting rid of the javascript in every header, better customisation options, windows compatibility and code layout. After that then it’s adding custom fields. File uploading will be last I’m afraid. There are few issues with that, that I haven’t ironed out yet conceptual.
Please continue to leave any feature-requests, feedback or bugs as comments.
Mark, thanks for the update. Congrats on the future addition to the family. I look forward to your future releases.
-Ryan
Thanks for the update, Mark! Congrats on number 2, too!

Oh, I might add I’m using WP 2.1
Hi Jocke Dieden, I’m afraid it’s a known bug of the latest release, that it does not work on WP2.1. I haven’t yet fixed it. Is first on my list however.
Ok, Thank’s anyway, I’ll stay tuned here:)
im searching this plugin its awesome but its not working on wp2.1
im waiting new version
This is an amazing plugin! I want one… This could be also great for guest posting, contests and other cool stuff.
But, I have WordPress 2.1… I would love to be informed when there’s one available for 2.1. Thanks!
hi at all,
great plugin – but some problems! work perfekt, but there are a problem with the length of any post…if i test it with short text, there no problems – but if i use a artikel with 2000 words – nothing happend – any idea about this problem?
greats from germany
Any ideas on when this plugin will be ready for WP2.1?
please wp2.1 support :/
Wow, this is just what I need.
Looking forward to a 2.1 version. Have you got any idea, when it will be ready?
Thanks in advance
Hi everyone. I’ve just released v0.3 of the TDOMF. The only change in this release is that I’ve ported it to WordPress 2.1.2.
What a cool plugin!
Thanks Domiziano!
Keeping watching this space for future updates.
Thanks for posting the updated version. This is a handy plugin.
nice one!
it’d be nice to see some image support, will wait for new versions
COooooooolllllllllllll man your awesome put a digg button in your post i will digg you:)
A digg button… never thought of that. Hmmm….
This is just what I needed! Thank you. I would be happy if future versions would have the possibility for submitters to select post category.
Great idea
I’ll probably be using this at some point… adding it to my ‘Scrapbook’ or Bookmarks on FF.
I use this on MovChannel.com site and users submit TV shows and movies using this form – it works great and I love it – thanks a lot!
Many thanks for this. Have just installed and it is just what I had wanted. The only thing is the bug you mention of 250 word post limit. Is there any way to cure this or is it a big problem?
Would be nice for users to be able to post longer items, but otherwise thank you very much for neat and useful plugin.
Best wishes.
Hi Atomboy, I haven’t yet investigated the word limit. It has been reported twice to me so it is an issue. I’m hoping that I’ll have it solved in the next release.
Oh my God, this adds a lot of code on in the head of a page. I only use the TDO code on one page, not on any posts, so is there a way to remove the javascript in the head, make it so it is only inserted on the page where TDO is called?
Oops, just saw the “Planned Features” bit. Honestly, I try to keep my head content to a minimum, I think I’ll wait till you implement the new features.
Why, why, why damnit why haven’t you ported this to windows? That should be like an immediate thing you do, I want to use this plugin, but the damn thing won’t work (for me or for the 88.1 % percent of people that visit my site)
Hi Patung, yea it’s on the books. It’s easy enough to change to take the code out of the header and only included in the page. Alternately I could put the javascript in a js file and just include it in the header. This would keep it yo a minimum too.
Hi AJ, there is one big hurdle in porting to windows… I don’t have the resources to setup a Windows server with PHP and wordpress to test it. However Wyatt’s comment details the fix but I don’t know how to make it programmatic (i.e. where you doesn’t need to modify the code). The last release was just to port the code to latest wordpress, which was what most ppl were screaming for. The fact that it doesn’t work on windows should have zero impact on your users, only on running the plugin on your windows server. I’m using the plugin, as a user, from windows with no problems.
Just a quick comment to say that I’ve cracked the two open bugs. I’ve updated the plugin so it should work on window servers and allow very long posts. These fixes will be included in version 0.4, coming soon…
Release 0.4 of the TDOMF plugin avaliable.
I updated to 0.4 it works great, but it makes the whole right editpanel in edit-page floating over the post
Hi Korn, it does?
That is very weird. It’s been working fine on the demo site. What browser are you using?
I tried it today and everything seems to be working but then I go to the administration side and administer the “draft” post. In the custom fields, I have the information inlcuded like Author Email, Name Web Page. Then I try to update/delete the custom field information (in the “Action” column) and after clicking to update or delete, I get a message:
Error 403
We’re sorry, but we could not fulfill your request for …wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=27&message=2#postcustom on this server.

Do you have any suggestions why this happens?
Thanks
On the previous message, I’ve tried to do this on various computers and the same thing happens. I’m using WP 2.1.
Well I did some playing around with my plugins and it appears that the Bad Behavior plugin by Michael Hampton is the culprit that causes this message. I de-activated it and then went back to update one of the custom fields and it works OK.
Thanks
In response to post 100 : “I updated to 0.4 it works great, but it makes the whole right editpanel in edit-page floating over the post”
I can confirm that this is also the same for me – I’m using Firefox 2.0.0.2 and a clean install of WordPress 2.1.2.
If I use IE7, the layout is fine!
Ah, Firefox. Okay that would explain it. I’ve used Opera, IE6 and IE7 and saw no issue. I’ve had problems with Firefox before (just checkout the “Submit Comment” title of the form…) where those problems didn’t exist in Opera and IE. I suspect it’s to do with the size of the text fields. I’ll have a look at it during the week.
Thanks Randy. Good to know.
BTW what does the Bad Behavior plugin do?
hi, i find the plugin for verry usefull but
I have problem with language codding. I want to use Cyrilic. Is there any way for that. My WP is already translated. Thanks
Yes. See this on the WordPress Codex on translation plugins.
But, I’m going to be changing the text and usage of the langauge in the next few releases to make it more customisable.
Any thoughts of putting a “captcha” before the submit, to make sure this form is not spammed?
Not yet Ryan. I have a list of things that need to be implemented first.
You can force people to create a user account first instead and I was planning integration with WordPress’ built-in IP banlist. Potentially, another approach is to use the Akismet plugin too. I’d love to use some modification of Spam Karma TBH.
How about a password…I like the fact that I don’t need to have users registered to have them post. In my case I’m sending out the form link to a large group of people, if there was a way for them to need a password to access the page. It would make it much easier, I think, to prevent unwanted contributors.
Thanks for the quick response and the great plugin…
Holle, This plug-in is very good, pity uses Chinese to appear bug. instance:”%u6D4B%u8BD5%u6295%u9012%u65B0%u95FB%u6548%u679C” and so on the code, may under the revision?
When the submitting user get an email letting them know their post has been published it is from “wordpress@domain.com”. Where can I cnange this? as I want it to come from “admin@domain.com”
There is a bug with css. If someone contributed a post, and I wanted to add an image with css, the css will automatically get ERASED. This only happens when the name of the contributor is showed as the author of the post. Also, it cannot convert asian text propertly. Other than that, everything works great!!
For some reason whenever I try to test the plugin it hangs up after I hit submit…. the loading gif just stays there
also there’s that problem where I can’t write any posts b/c of the plug in
Hi Ryan, had never thought of that kind of feature. In my mind, if you wanted “user groups”, i.e. only certain people can access the form, then I would ask people to register and create a user account. One of the features I plan to implement would be to properly use WordPress Roles rather user levels. That way you could create a role and let only them use it. If it’s the hassle of creating an account… perhaps something like OpenID might be a solution then? There is a plugin (not created by me) that allows people to login to WordPress using OpenID, that way if they have a WordPress.com, Yahoo, Livejournal etc. they can use that to login?
Hi Kevin, I’m afraid this is built into the core wordpress. I just use the WordPress function to send the email. And there is no option in WordPress to change it. Potentially this is another plugin!
But if I see a way to do it, I’ll see what I can do.
and
Hi Vietson and 2699, I don’t even know how to test this. I assume this occurs if you use WordPress localised in Chinese (please confirm)? I’m not sure where to begin. If anyone has any insights into this issue, please drop me a line. In the plugin, the text in the form is converted using htmlentities (AFAIR) and this is a standard PHP function. If this can’t handle Chinese… I’m not sure what I can do to resolve it.
Hi Vietson, I’m not sure what your trying to do? What do you mean “to add an image using CSS”? Also what do you mean the “name of the contributor is showed as the author”?
I’ve certainly noticed with WordPress 2.1 if you use the rich-text editor it erases manually inserted code that does slightly non-standard stuff (obviousily thinking it can do it better than you). But this would only be an issue if you were editing the post using the WordPress UI after submission.
Hi AJ, are you using a Windows based platform? I’m afraid there are still issues with Windows (I don’t have a windows setup here to test). See here.
What version of WordPress are you using (only 2.1.2 is supported)? What version of PHP are you using (greater than PHP 4.3.0)? And finally what browser do you use (this is probaly not the issue)?
I’ve just tried writing and posting a post on the TDOMF site. No issues. (See here!).
“wordpress@domain.com”. Where can I cnange this?
Hi Kevin, I’m afraid this is built into the core wordpress. I just use the WordPress function to send the email. And there is no option in WordPress to change it. Potentially this is another plugin! But if I see a way to do it, I’ll see what I can do.
SOLUTION
If you open wp-includes/pluggable.php and search for wordpress you can then change the two instances of “wordpress” to whatever you want.
Hi, I provide a simplified Chinese text Demo, you may test.

Getting Unicode, MySql and Rails to Cooperate:
http://ruphus.com/blog/2005/06/23/getting-unicode-mysql-and-rails-to-cooperate/
I am using this plugin with wordpress 2.1.1(clean) on a xampp windows server, and firefox 2.0.0.2. A worst case scenario for thus plugin but still usable. The problems I have are:
-The post/page edit side menu overlap. Though I use the IE Tabs addon for firefox so it’s not a big deal.
-after install when I go to options-TDOMF it tries to load
mysite.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=TDOMiniFormsOptionsMenu.php
and returns an error that says:
Cannot load TDOMiniFormsOptionsMenu.php.
All I have to do is add a \ between TDOMiniForms and OptionsMenu.php
in the address bar like so:
/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=TDOMiniForms\OptionsMenu.php
And it works. this happens in IE or Firefox.
Still The best plugin possible for me. I run a site that gives away a new invention idea every day and I needed an easy way for anybody to submit their ideas for publishing
This is a known problem. I aim to fix this in the next release.
What version of PHP are you running?
What’s happening is that the PHP constant DIRECTORY_SEPERATOR is not avaliable on your host or is set to blank. It should be part of PHP since version 4.0.6!
I can put a check in the code to see if the DIRECTORY_SEPERATOR is defined but I’d have to set the default to ‘/’ if it’s not set because this has more chance of being accepted.
Hi, I have an encoding problem when posting in swedish. Then å, ä and ö goes: .
Is this an WP 2.1.2 issue? I use K2 by the way.
Hi Jocke Dieden,
It’s not a WP 2.1.2 issue, I don’t think. I suspect it’s the same problem that 2699 was encountering. I believe I’ve fixed this and it will be avaliable in the next release.
K2? What is it? Does this cause other problems with my plugin?
Thanks Mark for the speedy answer. K2 is just the wordpress theme I’m using. I mentioned it in case it could have anything to do with the error.
I use php 5
If I put a / in instead of a \ it doesn’t work. this is possibly a windows thing.
Howdy. I was just testing 2.1.3RC1 and your plugin (v.4) threw these errors:
Warning: main(/…wp-includes/pluggable.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /…/wp-content/plugins/TDOMiniForms/Form.php on line 7
Warning: main() [function.include]: Failed opening ‘…/wp-includes/pluggable.php’ for inclusion (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in …/wp-content/plugins/TDOMiniForms/Form.php on line 7
I haven’t had time to investigate, but thought you might like to know. By the way, cool plugin, I’ve been using it on my site, much easier than having people submit via contact form.
Sounds like a problem with 2.1.3RC1. I can’t imagine they would take away the constants ABSPATH and WPINC… would they?
Hmm. Ok. Are you using the latest version of PHP5? You should definitly have DIRECTORY_SEPERATOR. Check your include path in PHP.ini? (ref).
My apologies. I accidently downloaded 2.0.10RC1 and “upgraded” that! So I’m sure that was the issue
*phew*
Version 0.5 released. Bug fixes. Enjoy.
i think so, this plugin needs an attachment panel for post enter page
Is there a way to disable the custom fields from being published automatically?
During testing, I will edit a submission from the form, delete the custom fields, but they still appear in the final published post.
disregard last comment, just figured out a way to exclude the fields from published post
after i submit a post, i see a loading image and it doesnt redirect. loading image stays… is it a bug? i try plugin on example blog. its redirect Your post “test” has been accepted and is now in bla bla bla……… but mine it doesnt redirect. loading image stays.
I might be wrong on this, but does the use of the script tag without type=”text/javascript” or language=”Javascript” cause a validation error? Also, is there any way to lower the overhead by only including the necessary JS code on the form entry screens themselves? Nice going with this plugin, hope to see it develop in the near future
Peace.
Hi Xander, yes it does break validation. However I thought I had fixed that in the last version. It will be fixed in the next version (to be released this week).
Again, fixed in next version (to be released this week). See “Planned Features”.
Hi antis3ptick, sounds like there is something wrong on your blog. There are number of things to check. First trying disabling all other plugins and if it works now. (Make sure you don’t have the “Bad Behaviour” plugin activated as users have reported incompatibility with TDOMF). If that doesn’t work, get back to me and I’ll tell you how to enable some debug.
Just want to report that the plugin’s archive for v0.6 contains a plugin description file stating it’s Version: 0.5
Best regards
Thanks Olivier Berger! I hadn’t noticed. Archive updated.

Great news on the update Mark! I’ll be installing it shortly. Ahni.
poop. For some reason, everytime I click send (while logged out) a message shows up saying “undefined.” am I doing something wrong?
Hi Ahni, I don’t know. I’ve tried it on the demo site with the latest version and not a bother. Have you tried the demo site with your current configuration?
Does it work okay while logged in with a user account?
hurray,I figured it out! Testing the script on another WP install (both using wp 2.0.5 btw) an error showed saying it can’t find /wp-includes/pluggable.php
So at the top of form.php I changed pluggable.php to pluggable-functions.php and now it works like a charm (unless that interferes with something?
Either way, people have been unexpectedly sending me stuff to post lately, well now they can have their own category and submission form, hehehe)
Cheers, Ahni.
Ah. As of version 0.3, I ported to wordpress 2.1.2. I’m not planning on supporting older versions of wordpress. It’s bad enough having to support windows *and* unix hosts!
Hi there! This plugin is really good idea, its feature is very useful for the site im working on. Unfortunately, theres a problem i was completly unable to solve. I use ISO-8859-2 encoding for polish lang in WP, but every post submitted via TDOMiniForms has polish letters messed.
Is there a chance that this issue is fixable?
cheers
Hi pawel, what version of the plugin are you using? With version 0.5 I fixed a problem where Chinese characters were getting mangled when you post. This was due to the way AJAX incorrectly encoded the text for passing to WordPress.
Could you try posting some polish characters using the demo site?
Thanks for an answer
. I’m using 0.6 ver, and WP 2.12. I’ll post polish chars right away.
Hi Pawal, those polish characters seemed to work fine on the demo site. See here!
I’m sure it’s been mentioned but it would be cool if the user could embed YouTube videos or something like Viper’s Video Quicktags. Thanks and keep up the great work!
hello,
I have been using your plugin since version 0.1 and with each version I had to manuall correct some invalid html
I just thought I’d mention this, so maybe you can fix it once and for ever…
I’ll go ahead now and try to validate your demopage and send you the needed fixes.

tags... drop me an email and I'll respond with the codeHi Christian,
Technically you can use what ever tags you can use if you were writing the post. At least that is my understanding. This means if you got a wiki syntax plugin, a submitter can use wiki syntax.
However, I saw someone tried to sumbit a youtube embedded post on the demo site (was that you?). I got notification as admin of the post with the code but when I went to edit it/publish it, the code had disappeared. Not sure where the fault lies but I’ll look at it. It maybe similar to the problem listed in known bugs:
Great pluggins. Works exactly the same as I wanted. However two things:
1) Using this tdomf_the_submitter, I am able to show the name of the submitter. However I want few words before the name as well, like “Shared By:” & NAME. If I write Shared By outside then it shows even if there is no submitter. So, I am not pretty sure how to show the words “Shared By” only if a submitter is there. I know this can be done something like [ IF SUBMITTER THEN echo tdomf_the_submitter ]. Any suggestions on that part.
2) Also clicking on the Submitter name should list all the posts by that submitter rather than taking them to their website. I am waiting for this feature to be incorporated. It will make it kinda complete.
Waiting for your reply.
Regards
Lovely
Hi Lovely_Angel_For_You, yes both are doable.
This piece of code should work.
<?php $submitter_value = tdomf_get_the_submitter(); if(!empty($submitter_value)) { ?> Shared by <?php echo $submitter_value; ?> <?php } ?>Hmmm. Do you allow anyone to submit or do you require submitters to register as users first?
If only registered users can submit, this becomes trivial. Make sure you have “Auto-correct Author” option enabled in the TDOMF options menu. Then when someone submits a post and you publish it, they become marked as the “author” of that post and you can use all the built-in wordpress support for authors including the the_author_link wordpress tag.
You can use something like this:
<?php $submitter_value = tdomf_get_the_submitter(); if(!empty($submitter_value)) { ?> Shared by <?php the_author_link(); ?> <?php } ?>If you allow anyone to submit, I’m going to have to put this feature on the long finger. As I said, you can do it fairly trivially in WordPress if you have your users register as users first. You can still allow the option though for those users who do register.
This piece of code will, if the user submitted while logged in, print out a link to all the posts from that user has submitted. If they were not logged in, it will print the normal link to their webpage. Make sure you have the “Auto-correct Author” option enabled:
<?php $submitter_id = get_post_meta($post->ID, "_tdomf_original_poster_id", TRUE); if(!empty($submitter_id)) { ?> Shared by <?php the_author_link(); ?> <?php } else { /* just use the normal submitter link */ ?> Shared by < ?php tdomf_the_submitter(); ?> <?php } ?>You can do something similar without the “Auto-correct Author” option enabled but the code is much longer.
Thanks for the reply.
I am fairly new to php, so dont have much info about the syntax. Thanks for the code.
For the second option, I am allowing anyone to submit the post. I am not having registration open. As the registered user able to see the backend page of wordpress which is not in sync with front index page, meaning the theme. So as of now anyone can submit. I think your pluggin has great future in incorporating the option on letting users submit the post and edit them later as well (as listed in future features). All the best.
And thanks for deleting the double post, I missed out on code earlier.
Regards
Lovely
Very Cool. We implemented this on our website, seems to work great. Any chance of adding akismet to this just in case you start getting a ton of spam?
Great job you have done! This is an realy good tool. Unfortunately it didn´t work in my blog. I am running an wordpress blog version 2.1.2 but it did,´t work. I have inserted the “” code into the text box of the posting area but instead of load the form it just shown the code in the post. Could you help me try to find the reason for this happening?
Thank you in advance!
Hey Art of Blog, spam protection is listed on the “future features”. Using Aksimet is certainly one of the ideas I’m looking at. Shouldn’t be too hard to implement.
Hi, dyego, could you send me a link to the page so I can see what’s printed out?
Great pluggin
Im also gaving the problem were “undefined” comes up after a user post is submitted.
The demo site seems to work ok for me tho. I dunno what the provlem could be.
How would I go about removing the name and email address field? I want complete anonymous posting.
Thanks
Hi CHris,
What version of wordpress are you using? Please make sure it’s WordPress 2.1.2 (or better). I haven’t tried WordPress 2.1.3 yet but I doubt that would break it.
Really? You want to hide these fields and prevent any checking? Yea it can be done. It requires messing with some PHP of the plugin if your up for that?
Hey,
For some reason my yahoo host wont update wordpress. Im stuck at 2.0.2. Ive emailed support and am waiting for a reply. I managed to get version 0.1 to work tho so its definitly a version incompatibility problem.
Unfortunatly I dont know PHP but I guess Ill have to give it a try. Any tips on where to start? Would I just have to delete some code or I’d need to delete and write new code as well? Ideally id like to have a setup like http://www.grouphug.us
Thanks again for the plugin.
Hi CHris,
From version 0.3 of the plugin onwards, it won’t run on anything earlier than WordPress 2.1. Sorry.
Give me a bit of time and I’ll get back to you on exactly what you need to do.
That be awesome, thanks mark.
Im new to all this, just got an idea for a website and dove into all this. Im learning as I go. Ends up yahoo doesnt update wordpress automatically eventhough it has a feature called “update worpress automatically”. So I got an FTP client and updated. v0.6 works great now.
Cheers
CHris
It’s really works for me.Thanks dude.
This looks like the bomb. Thanks for building this.
Three things:
1) My site isn’t translating the ‘‘
I did a quick test by editing a template to include the form using php function, which worked fine.
Then I built a page and used the supplied text that should be replaced by the form but it didn’t work. Any suggestions? I’m on 2.1.3 of WordPress.
2) I’d like to hack this to include a custom field (of a pre-determinded key). Any suggestions on how to add this to the ‘post’ object.
3) I’d like to validate some entries in my hacked form (e.g. the custom field is required). Any suggestions on where to add this code and how to deal with error conditions?
Thanks once again.
BTW..I see someone with a similar problem to mine. You asked to see their page. Here is mine:
http://cleverfootball.com/form
Hi Phil McThomas, I believe I see the problem. When you added the code
<!--tdomf_form1-->was it in the “visual” or “code” tab? If you added in the visual tab, it html-ifies it so it doesn’t work. You need to add it in the code tab. Alternativily you can go to “Your Profile” in “Users” and uncheck “Use the visual editor when writing” as well. Then you can add the code and WordPress won’t try to turn it into valid html.Until WordPress 2.1, this would never be a problem. I guess perhaps it’s time I change it to
[!--tdomf_form1--]which WordPress won’t convert to HTML.Thanks Mark – that did the trick.
Any thoughts on (2) and (3)??
2) I’d like to hack this to include a custom field (of a pre-determinded key). Any suggestions on how to add this to the ‘post’ object.
3) I’d like to validate some entries in my hacked form (e.g. the custom field is required). Any suggestions on where to add this code and how to deal with error conditions?
I think I’m seeing the answers to my questions after a bit of research. I see the add_meta functions and I see other simple form validation logic, so I think I’m going to be able to hack this to achieve my objectives.
I’ll post a follow-up here once I’m done in case others are trying to do a similar hack.
Thanks once again for the cool plugin.
Hi Phil McThomas, I had thought about writing up a short tutorial to describe how to do what you want. But, if I do that, I ask myself why not just start implementing it? I will get around to it (and other features) in the next few months.
Cool. That would be most useful!
I am trying to install thi on a site and I keep getting the error that the default user cannot be the admin. I hace another user setup as an author and don’t see the option for changing to it in the config screen. I am sure I am missing something real easy here but would appreciate the help anyway.
Hey Mark. I have another quick question for you when you get a moment…
how can I make and
into an else if statement, so the tdomf name will display if available, otherwise the author nickname will be displayed?
Cheers.
Hi AAwoken, it should be on the options page, under the section “Default Author”. If the drop down list is empty or does not include the user you created to be used as default, it’s probably because the user level for your default user is too high. If the user can publish posts, it can’t be used as the default author.
Otherwise, when an anonymous user posts, it gets attached to the default author. If the default author can publish, then the post is published. Which is… well bad. Does that make sense?
Hi Ahni, I think I answered this one already in the comments to someone else. Check this comment out and tell me if it helps.
I haven’t had a change to play with this so far this week, but I’ve got a nagging thought in my head.
If I’m giving a user enough privs to create a draft or publish a post through the TDO form, will they also be able to draft/publish using the admin back-end?
Or to put it another way: Is there a way to allow users to draft/publish through TDO without letting them see the post form in the admin dashboard?
Hi Phil McThomas,
If your using the latest version of the plugin, you can only chose “Anyone” or cherry pick from roles that cannot publish posts.
Any user who can publish will always be able to use the form because, well, they can do exactly the same using the WordPress UI.
If you give a user rights to submit a draft, they will be able to see the WordPress UI post form. Giving a role the permissions to use the TDOMF form is independant of that. So you can have a user that can use the TDOMF form and the WordPress UI write post menu.
Yes. This is the purpose of the plugin. By default, anyone can submit a post using the TDOMF form. If you change it to only the subscriber role, then only people who register as users can use the TDOMF form. If you want to only allow certain users to access the form (i.e. not just anyone who registers), but not see the WordPress UI, then you need to create a new role (using the Role Manager plugin) which has all the same rights as the subscriber role. Then in the TDOMF menu, just set that role as the only role able to access the form.
Does all that make sense? It seems to sound so complicated but it isn’t really.
Brilliant – that’s a great implementation of your concept.
I’m hopefully going to get the chance to implement this at the weekend. I think it’s a somewhat novel use of your plugin, so it might provide some interest.
Mark,
Any word on how to remove the required email and name section for complete anonymous posting. I deleted a section which removed the email and name section from the forum but submissions wont go through cuz its they are still required fields.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Hi CHris, I’ll have a look into it next week. One potential solution is to fill the form with “dummy” values and then hide the forms. I’ll try it during the week and get back to you.
Can you list categories in the form and have draft posts submitted to those categories for publishing?
Hello from France,
and thank you very much for this great plugin.
Unfortunately I have 1 concern and I’m afraid it is a big one. I mean:
On my site, subscribers can register and post using the TDOMF form. Once the posts submitted, they wait for approval from me (the admin)
Then I go through the TDOMF console (into the Post tab) and publish the awaithing pots. This works well.
However, before publishing a submitted post, I’d like to add some categories. So I have to edit the post and tick the checkbox of the relevent categories. Then I save the post for publication. After that the author post is no longer the fisrt one who wrote the post from the form, but me !
The author has been renamed to the admin name automatically.
I can check that when editting a post for adding categories, the post author listbox could only be a name from the admin.
Please is there any way to keep the original author name ?
Thanks in advance
Hi tfab
Thanks. It’s so amazing that this plugin really gets around.
This is a bug/feature of wordpress. One I have been aware of since I wrote the plugin. In the options menu for the plugin you should have a check box called “Auto-correct Author”. Make sure this is checked. What this does is automatically updates the wordpress author of a post to the submitter after wordpress has changed it. It works on my demo site.
Also, when you edit the post, check the values of “TDOMF” side panel. Here you can review and edit the actual submitter details.
Another trick too, is to use
<?php tdomf_the_submitter(); ?>template tag in your theme, as this will only use the submitter details and not the author details.Hi Kevin,
I’m not sure what you mean. Do you mean let submitters pick and choose which categories the post should belong to or do you mean setting more than one default category? Both of these options are planned for the future.
188 – yes let submitters pick and choose which categories the post should belong to
It’s in the future plans. It won’t be in the next release I’m afraid. It’s a feature I’d like to have too.
I have hacked the form in a couple of ways to help submitters choose which category they want the post submitted to.
First I added an extra field for “Categories” appearing under the web site field. Then I made a query to my database and I have the categories appear in a drop down placed with css next to the “Category” field.
Unfortunately I haven’t been able to make those categories in the drop down selectable. It’s just for reference. The submitter has to type the category they choose in the “Category” field.
I didn’t like that option so I did this:
I manually added a listing of my categories under the new “Category” field and with Javascript, the submitter can select what category they want and the Category name then appears in the “Category” field.
When submitted, the new category name appears with all the other info in the admin under “Custom Fields”
Then I have to manually select the category they chose in my category list before I publish the post.
If any one wants copies of my files, just let me know at “admin at viewports.net”
Ultimately, I’d like to have an automatic selectable listing of my categories in the form and when submitted, that category would also be selected in my admin edit post section. But I can live with this for now even though I have to manually add new categories.
Hi Mark,
Thanks for your quick answer and sorry for not finding the option myself. However, and finally (!) I think there is a true issue, rather due to the french translation of roles in WordPress.
Into the plugin settings, into the “Who can access the form?” section, I ticked ‘subscriber’ which is french-translated and displayed “Abonné”. The last character of this translation is the special character ‘é’ and is html coded ‘é ;’ (without space before the semicolon!)
It seems this causes most of the trouble I meet.
First trouble: in the option I ticked ‘Abonné’ (subscriber) and tried to save, but I got the error “You must select either “Anyone” or some roles for access to the form!”. Amazingly, the plugin thought nothing was checked.
So I choose to tick ‘contributeur’ which has no accent in french (=contributor in english) and the save worked. Then I looked into the wp_options table, found the ‘tdomf_access_roles’ field, and replaced the value ‘contributeur’ by ‘Abonné ;’. In this way I was hopping to make the french subscriber role works.
But it was not sufficient. I had to correct the TDOMF source code:
if(!empty($role) && current_user_can(strtolower($role))) {
by
if (($role==”Abonné”)||(!empty($role) && current_user_can(strtolower($role)))) {
Then the subscribers of my site were able to post using the form.
Now I try to make work your last answer, check the “Auto-correct Author” checkbox from the option but I got the same error than previously when saving. So once again I choose the contributor role and succeeded to save. Then, again I replace ‘contributor’ into the ‘tdomf_access_roles’ field by ‘Abonné’
Unfortunately, even with the ‘tdomf_auto_fix_author’ field value at ’1′ the Auto-correct Author feature does not work
Well, I’m lost now
( I’m sure the bug is easy to solve, but I don’t know well php and your plugin.
Please could you help for correcting ?
Once again, thanks in advance
tfab
Note:
I agree with you, I could use this way to display the right author name, but the post_author id remains wrong in database and could be a problem in the future.
Ah, cak. Sounds like a HTML translation problem alright. I’ll try and have a look at it as soon as I can. I suspect I know what the issue might be. I need to decode the role names back into their real names using something like
html_entity_decode().I’ll try and replicate the issue on my test site and see what could be at fault.
Ok Mark that would nice of you.
if needed WordPress french can be download at http://www.wordpress-fr.net/telechargements/
FYI I’m using the 2.1.2 wordpress version.
Please feel free to ask help if I could do something.
Due to the time-zone, I have now to go bed !
Waiting for your feedback.
Have a good evening
tfab
Hi,
The most important issue remains the html translation problem as raised previously.
However, just to let you know that:
- Auto-correct Author
FYI:it works only when publish/unpublish from the TDO MiniForm Post tab. The post_author id is corrected.
But if you edit the post and then click on Publish from the usual WP screen, the correction is not made.
- WP Error msg after clicking on publish button
Not a big issue: when I edit a post which is awaiting for publishing, I then click onto the publish button from the usual WP screen. The console can’t find the page TDOMiniFormsManageMenu.php as it seems a Directory separator is missing : TDOMiniForms ‘/’ ManageMenu.php.

Hey,
I’ve done some work on the Form.php file.
* I added a couple of custom fields (one for tags, one for a post meta field).
* I added some validation on those fields and of course the steps to post them on the db.
* I also hacked around with the ‘post permission’ logic. I’m going to let anyone sign-up as a subscriber, and also let subscribers post via this form. Therefore subscribes have no access to the admin panel, apart from to edit their profile. But they have full access to post. This obviously might not work for everyone.
I’m happy to shoot you over my code. A simple diff would show you what I hacked. It’s all pretty straight-forward. Pls shoot me an email to soccershout@gmail.com if you’d like it.
Here’s what I’m thinking though: I kinda feel like the code should be refactored to include some hooks into some custom functions so everyone who wants to hack this can do so and still stand a good chance to taking pain-free updates to the core plugin.
For instance, there could be a custom functions for building the form, validating the values, and posting the entry to the db. There could be two flavors of each function: Override (i.e. don’t show your form, show my form) or Add (i.e. show your form then show my extra field).
Let me know what you think. I could have a go at the refactoring if you think this is a good approach.
Phil
Hi !
Great plugin. Thanks for all the work done.
I have a question.
Basic one.
if someone publishes a post with a web address in the text, litteraly not html code, for example “www.google.com”, is it possible to make it act like an actual link once the post is published.
Hope my question sound clear.
ps : really wait for some category implementation
!
Hi from France !
thx for your plugin, great !
I want to add some code to limit the number of charcters of the text area, but I am not very familiar with php.
I want to put a script in the tags of the page. As it is a php and there is no tag where sould I put it ?
Thx
hi, this is looking like the first step to sth i am just looking for: a way to give a list of items with checkboxes plus a form like yours to send a wish (or an order without payingfunction) from within a static wordpress site. i mean i wondered if one could change the functionality from being a post to sending a message to the owner of the blog, understand? could you think about doing this (tell me what it would cost!)..??
hi,
when i install and activate TDO Miniform, then it does not allo me to delet post even when i’am logged in as admin and shows message “You don’t have permission to do that.”
And when i disable the plugin it allows me to delete posts. please guide me what i might be doing wrong
Hi ftab
I haven’t had a chance to look at this problem since, but I’m pretty sure I know what the problem is.
Hi Phil McThomas
That is a strange and quirky idea. I like it. Opens the field for a lot of customisation, if you know what your doing.
Hi stickitstaff
Do you want code that figures out if a title is a link or just have the title treated as a link? i.e. If some posts “a title” and another posts “http://google.com”, then the title with google in it would be a hyperlink?
It’s doable, but it’s not something that needs to be done as part of this plugin.
Hi Francois,
I think you can do that just by modifying the html of the form. I’d need to look into it.
Hi anne,
Your request might be better served using a plugin like cforms (not mine).
Hi manish,
What “role” is the account your using set to, when you delete posts?
I have admin account, and a subscriber account(as required by the plugin).
now if the plugin is activated and i login as admin also, then also it does not allow me to edit categories and or delete categories or posts.
Hi one more thing
is there a way that unregistered users could directly post without moderation.
That is can I turn moderation off, as my site is new and I really want users to be motivated by directly publishing using your plugin TDO Forms.
What happens now is that the post is held for moderation unless I accept orpublish it. Thanx for taking interest in trying to solving my earlier problem(yesterday)
regarding post no. 203 I tried a different thing. Going through your version revision history, I found that your ver. 0.1 had the same bug that i want now as feature so what i did was downloaded ver. 0.1 and removed v 0.6 by v0.1 and now its working fine. I would be more than obliged if you’d go to my site and write about anything that you hate PLEASE, it is a site that is trying to discuss hatred in people. here is the link sharehatred
Thanx Man your a genious and it would be great if you could suggest a way to use this feature in v0.6
Hey Mark,
I like the idea of anyone being able to submit content, but what about myself?
I’ve recently downloaded your TDOMF plugin, and I encountered a few difficulties.
It says that there “MUST be a default author who must not have publish or edit abilities”.
How do I make it so I (as the administrator) have complete control over my own posts and pages (it won’t let the admin be selected as a default author)? Then, I tried to create a few new posts (in my administrator dashboard profile) and it wouldn’t even allow me to be the author of my own posts, “somebody else” has to be selected.
I don’t want to create a new user just to make my posts and pages under “his” name. So how can I get it so I have ownership over my pages and posts?
If you need more details, I’d be happy to tell you more.
Thanks,
James
Hi James,
I’m not sure I understand what your trying to do?
To allow *anyone* to use the TDOMF from to submit, i.e. anonymously, there needs to be a default user to assign as author of posts submitted anonymously. This default user cannot be an administrator, nor can it have edit and publish permissions, otherwise when someone posts anonymously, the posts will be posted automatically. Just create a dummy user account with the Subscriber role and then assign that as the default user. That is all you have to do.
I certainly do not have this problem on my test site. I just tried it. I could write a post from the dashboard using the administrator account. It was published. Then I could edit it and set the author to my administrator account or enabled TDOMF and set an author, including the administrator, that way.
If you are logged in and you use the TDOMF form, TDOMF will pick up that you are logged in and use that user as the author, not the default user you’ve assigned for anonymous posts. This is regardless if you are logged in as just a Subscriber or as an all-powerful Administrator.
Do you have more than one Administrator account?
What version of WordPress are you using?
Have you removed publish and edit permissions from your account?
This shouldn’t be an issue! You can create, modify and delete posts as normal using your own Administrator account.
Hello,
Thanks for the quick response
Right now I had it set so only contributors (registered users) can write.
I did create a “dummy user” but I do not have it set as subscriber, I set him as contributor (didn’t think there was a difference) so I switched it over and no more post problems.
However, I am still getting the same error as before for my “pages”. I try to write a new page for my site in my administrator profile and *my user name* is not available for the “authorship” and “ownership” of the page. Just available contributors can be selected.
Thanks again,
James
I love this plugin and am using it on my blog now, but I use alot of custom fields on the back end and would love to have the plugin customized to fill those custom fields. Is that possible?
Hi Mark, great plugin but we need custom sections and file upload. If you make these, it will be greatest plugin for wp
thanks
i updated my blog to 2.2, so my registered users cant write, ignore them only writer and above can use the form.
i have 2 different v0.6 tdomf plugin they are different its not working on 2.2, working only for anyone publish or admins please i need help
me again i found the bug
problem is wordpress language, your plugin save options on your language but match results with default language
if you dont use english wordpress, open database > wp_options > find tdomf_access_roles this key and change with english words like “Subscriber” it works. but i think its problem, need patch to plugin. you must use role number 0 , 5 etc.
sory my bad english , but maybe somenone need it.
i did it works on other languages wordpress
Hi antis3ptick, role levels are deprecated. I should be using Roles and Capabilities. However there is an issue with langauge and the Roles in the options pane. I haven’t fixed it yet, I’m afraid.
Hello!
Thanks for a great plugin..
Just a quick question: How to make it such that USER_NAME/EMAIL ADD
is not mandatory? I’d like my users to be able to do the actual post itself without for username/password/website.
Thanks in advance!
Ooopsss, additional question:
How/where do i edit the Form layout? For instance if i wanted to make the form for the TEXT field longer?
Thats a great plugin. Thanks.
Is there a way for me to configure it that any post that is submitted by any reader will automatically appear in the blog, with no need for me to approve it?
hello Mark,
i have another question
wordpress send comment notifications to tdomf author. but i dont want it, i want wordress to send comment moderation notifications to admin only
how can i make it?
re: how to change form layout.
Got to find out how: through the FORM.php file. The layout can be changed there.
I was able to hide the website field by commenting out $who_are_you .= ““.__(“Webpage: “,”tdomf”).” “;
I still haven’t gotten around to making email/name fields not mandatory.
To remedy that i just put a text label with the default username and email (i.e guest, guest@email.com). It doesnt really make sense because users still have to input but thats my sort of workaround for it.
To others asking how to make it such that submissions are published automatically and w/o moderation, i think you can put in a default value “progmatically” for the username and email. I want to try this also but i’m still looking what file i need to change, and how to do it properly. =)
This is a great plug in! I can’t wait to get it to work. I have been trying all day to get it to load the form without any luck. I have tried in a page, and in a post without any luck.. nothing happens. I can get the form to show at the bottom of a post by using However it looks clumsy after the comment section. I would rather have one page for the form and link to it.
Also is there a way to place the post into a category of choice rather than just the default?
Thanks for your help,
Figster

I have some problems with foreign characters. Is that a known bug?
I can’t post æøå etc in my native language.
Furthermore, I would just like to promote the potential feature of users being able to add tags as a wonderfull idea
Pick that!
You may ignore the post I made on 6/23/07. After uninstalling and reinstalling WP I was able to use this plug in without any problems.
Thanks
How do I add it to the template, I figured out how to add it to a page or post but how do you actually put it somewhere on the front page and make it stay there?
BTW great job!
Thanks
It functions great and i put it in my sidebar. But now, nobody can post a comment.
This appears in the posts: “You must be logged in to post a comment.”
When i delete from the sidebar, the comments are open.
Please help.
Jens
hi mark, i hope you can help me.
Is it correct? A submitter is shown with this var “”.
its ok and i see the name of the submitter. then i submit a comment and the name of the submitter is gone.
Can you help me?
layla
Plugin is still working great.
Just another quick question, how can I get it to say “Post submitted by [user]” You do give us code for the user’s name, but I also wanted tadsubmitted by” to the front of it, if youy understand what I’m saying.
Thanks Again
I’m trying to get this to work but when I add it to a post or page it is simply blank!
I saw somebody else say he had to uninstall and reinstall wordpress which is something I really don’t want to do.
Any advice?
Hi,
I see that you say you are working on updates that would let viewers upload images, etc directly from the website to create a post that is held for admin review. How close are you
. Is it something that can be more easily created as just a php script instead of WP plugin?
I have just used the TDOM Form for a friend. It works very very well for text submissions.
I am creating sites for myself now and would like to use this form, but I need viewers to submit images and sometimes mp3, and flv, etc. I really like your form and thought I’d ask.
Also, do you have a paypal tip jar?
Is it possible to trust the default user? (or in other words – all post are published even if its non registered users)….
Is there a way to do this via plugin options or changing some code?
Found the solution for my last question (here).
In Form.php (not editable through WordPress admin – need to edit via FTP), line 215 – change “draft” to “publish”, and all posts will be published without having to approve each post manually.
Thank you for the plugin. Can you please look at the bottom of my page and let me know how to get rid of Allowed HTML Tags:
Very useful site… thanks for the plugins..!
Great plugin! I’m anxiously awaiting the new version, but seeing as it looks like a year or more since this has been updated, should I just get in there and make my own version?
Just a note I’ve got both your plugin and Cforms II running fine together over at iloveottawa.ca
HI, sounds like a good idea for a plugin, but I wondered is it possible to have a drop down menu so the user can assign the post to a category?
Thanks
Some news for you all: I’ve started work again on this plugin.
I’ve been working with Form.PHP and have made some minor changes (like removing text formatting options available to the user.) Also, made increased the size of the Title & Text boxes.
The changes to the text boxes went fine as did remarking out the information for the user to format text.
A problem has appeared that nothing I change in Form.php appears on the submit page. I was wondering if TDO works something like Smarty in that it generates a display page for quicker loads and for some reason TDO is not refreshing the display page.
To check it I changed the page where the form appears–removing the line that calls TDO. The changes replaced the form, but when the line of code to call TDO was reinserted the new changes still do not appear.
Why are the changes not appearing?
Hi Richard B again! I don’t know why the page is not being updated. The TDOMF plugin does not use any sort of fancy caching for quicker loads. Are you using something like “wp-cache”?
If you could post your changes somewhere that I could have a look at, I can check to see if there is something wrong?
I will be closing comments on this post soon. As an alternative way to manage feedback, you can use the newly added forums.

You can specify that all of these posts can go into a particular category- classifieds. Then you just need to exclude posts from that category on home page and/or other pages. The beautiful part about WordPress is that it can output RSS for every thing on your blog. You can manage and offer subscriptions to only “classifieds” category. [...]
